Viola Private Wealth has drafted in a chief investment officer as its founder Charlie Viola puts the finishing touches on the top talent lineup for his high-net-worth financial advice firm.
Daniel Kelly has joined Viola Private Wealth as its chief investment officer.
Daniel Kelly, the head of alternatives at Kelly+Partners, has defected to Viola Private Wealth as its chief investment officer. He will oversee the investment functions for the firm, ranging from asset allocation decisions to due diligence on listed as well as private investment opportunities. His work would feed into the firm’s financial advisers, who have the ultimate discretion over finding the best solutions for their individual clients. It is looking to grow its $2.5 billion pool four-times in the coming years.
In his old job, Kelly played a key role in developing and managing investment strategies for affluent clients of the $596 millionASX-listed firm. He has worked across equities, fixed income, alternative investments, and derivatives.
“Daniel’s appointment is a testament to our commitment to securing the best talent in the industry,” Viola Private Wealth CEO Sean Ward said. “His leadership reinforces our status as the wealth firm of choice for high-net-worth families and the go-to home for Australia’s best financial advisers.”
The business opened its doors in September, after Viola, atop-ranking adviser on the Barron’s list, orchestrated a management buyout of his unit from Sydney’s Pitcher Partners. Earlier this month, it lured Mutual Trust’s AngusMann who had overseen $500 million out of the firm’s Sydney offices.

Viola’s bread-and-butter business has been advisingC-suites, other company executives and founders on their personal wealth, but he has recently sought to branch out into advising professional athletes.
